APOC visioning at Milan Linate & Malpensa Airports

Evolving from standard APOCs to newly thought centers including various stakeholders and systems.

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport

Client

SEA Milan Airports, Milan (Italy)

Objective

SEA Milan aimed to evolve its decision-making towards Total Airport Management (TAM) by redefining its Airport Operations Centre (APOC) and integrating the Airport Operations Plan (AOP). While Malpensa and Linate Airports had established Airport Operations Coordination Centers with collaborative decision-making, SEA Milan recognised the need to transition to a fully realised APOC.

Although the necessary systems were in place, improvements were needed in ways of working, stakeholder engagement, and proactive, data-driven decision-making. SEA Milan sought support in:

  • Defining the vision for the new APOC.
  • Identifying the optimal stakeholder involvement model.
  • Integrating AOP into the APOC framework

Airport Intelligence facilitated the transformation through a structured, step-by-step approach.

Project outcome

SEA Milan established a structured vision for its APOC, ensuring a transition from AOCCs to a more integrated, proactive, and data-driven operational model.

The project delivered:

  • A comprehensive foundation for the APOC, structured around three core elements:
    • People and organization: Defined roles, responsabilities and structure
    • Systems and tools: Mapped the current and future state of operational tools
    • Infrastructure: Designed the  APOC layout and conceptualized the interior steup.
  • A phased roadmap for APOC implementation at both Malpensa & Linate Airports.
  • Support in project approval and stakeholder onboarding
