Definition of the future vision for the existing APOC and implementation support at KEF airport

Keflavík International Airport

Client

Isavia, Keflavik (Iceland)

Objective

The objective of the project was to support Isavia in defining the “TO BE” state of its APOC through the development of a vision, scope, and roadmap. The aim was to evolve the APOC into a proactive, data-driven decision-making body. Additionally, the project assisted in identifying the data requirements, organisational needs, and technology infrastructure necessary to move towards Total Airport Management through the implementation of A-CDM and AOP software, including prioritising potential features for such supporting tools.

The vision was defined with a long-term perspective, ensuring a gradual implementation that laid the right foundation for the airport’s full aspirations, supporting its growth and long-term objectives.

Key areas of focus included:

  • Defining the role of the APOC within the airport’s operations
  • Assessing potential improvement areas of the existing APOC and outlining steps for its further development
  • Determining how all existing and future components should be linked for a transversal, proactive, and data-driven management approach
  • Identifying the role of supporting tools such as AOP in the APOC development and the key features required for the initial phases
  • Reviewing the current organisational structure and IT architecture, and identifying the requirements for AOP implementation

Project outcome

Airport Intelligence guided KEF through a structured, step-by-step approach to ensure the
following outcomes were achieved:

  • Recommendations were provided across different domains of change: processes, organisation, technology, performance management, and transversal topics
  • A clear and common definition of vision, ambition, and objectives for the KEF APOC
  • A detailed roadmap for further KEF APOC development by the end of 2023
  • Concrete workstreams and priority features for the KEF AOP
  • A high-level roadmap for KEF AOP implementation
  • Concrete insights into:
    • Organisational impact and change management needed
    • Technical needs, including IT architecture, resources and capabilities
    • Opportunities for business value creation
  • Sharing of best practices and lessons learned, along with training and coaching for the extended project team, provided by experts to accelerate the project launch

After the project, Airport Intelligence continued to support KEF airport in the implementation of different action items from the APOC and AOP development roadmap. The ConOPS (Concept of Operations) for the long-term evolution of the APOC beyond 2023 was also developed during this period.
